Enquiries
.
Our clinic manager Barbara Temple is available every week day from 9 am to 4 pm (Thursday 9-12) to take calls to give preliminary advice and make bookings. Barbara has been at the hub of the practice for years and patients often praise her manner and helpfulness.

Booking an appointment.

  • Consultation.
We encourage patients to make a consultation visit wherever possible. The main benefit of this from our point of view is that we can check that sufficient tube remains for us to perform the reversal. Unfortunately there is no standard vasectomy technique and some methods destroy most or all of the available vas rendering reversal impossible. Of course most men are suitable for reversal (approximately 95%) but not all. Our hones and vastly experienced assessment may save you the trouble and inconvenience of a wasted procedure. In addition we can offer you an individual, personalised chance of success with your reversal at Dawson Microsurgery.
  • No consultation
Many of our patients travel from abroad or far away so that prior consultation is not feasible. Under these circumstances we collect as much relevant information about the patient and give as much counselling as possible over the phone. We would then offer a ‘one-stop’ consultation and operation appointment with an enhanced deposit.

Preparing for the op.
Patients must be accompanied to the clinic (exceptionally we can arrange for care on the evening of the procedure) to remain safe. They may also eat – we advise a light meal or snack 2 hours before the operation time. Shaving the area is optional, we usually do this for you. Otherwise, relax, you’re in good hands!

The reversal procedure.
Most appointments start at 8 am procedure and end at around 11.30-12.00. The sedation is so relaxing that patients have said they actually enjoyed the process (see patients’ comments on this site or call for a CD patients’ experience). By 1 pm patients have had coffee and biscuits, the escort has had a full report on the day’s findings and are ready to head home for 2 days’ rest.

Recovery time.
Allow 2 days rest immediately after the op. (being driven or flying home the next day is fine).
Allow a further 3-5 days ‘pottering’ around at home.
Return to deskwork after 5-7 days, heavier work by day 10-14.
Resume sex, sport and heavy lifting by 4 weeks.

Testing
We advise resuming a healthy sex life (four times a week) after 4 weeks. Indeed many pregnancies occur within weeks of resuming sex, so don’t miss out! We would like to see patients back in the clinic after 2-3 months for a video picture of their own sperms chasing around the screen! For patients afield we advise a semen analysis through the GP or ideally a fertility clinic. Sperm freezing (cryopreservation) is advisable when the count is favourable, between 2 and 6 months.
